Razor doesn't work & Panasonic support is awful
I've had this razor over a year and am on my 4th unit. The first razor never shaved very well and the screen died w/in about 6 months. The second one didn't shave many spots on my face after repeated attempts & was sent back w/ a note requesting either a refund, or an upgraded model (I volunteered to pay the difference), but was sent the same unit again. After spending weeks trying to get someone in customer service to correctly send me a shipping label as they promised, I shipped the 3rd unit back. After waiting 3 weeks, they shipped me the exact same model number AGAIN! I've always bought Norelco units over the past 15 years and never had an issue w/ the units like this. I guess spending more on something doesn't always get you a better product....
    baldie
Just bought the panasonic es8243a yesterday. It was on sale from $150 to $100 at Bed, Bath, Beyond (last one they had too...) I have been shaving my head w a razor now for over 4 years and was tired of the whole time-consuming process. I was using the fusion blades which are excellent razors, but wanted a quicker easier process. Ive tried an old remington (three wheel kind) and it tore up my neck, front and the back. This wonderful blue ES8243 wet/dry shaver works great. I can do my head, face, and it does great on the neck w/o making it raw, red and inflamed. This is great, this is the bees knees item 9.
    Best electric shaver
I hate shaving. I purchased my first electric razor years ago on a whim. It was a Norelco rotary and I was suprised that it gave me an adequate shave. I used it until it wore out then I purchased an ancestor of this model a Panasonic wet dry shaver. Loved it but it slipped out of my hands in the shower one morning and the blade apparatus broke rendering the shaver useless. So I purchased a braun 360 model which seemed to work pretty well and has lasted me 4 years. It came time to puchase new blades for the braun along with new cleaning cartridges so I went online to see if I couldn't upgrade for just a few more bucks than the blades/refill would cost. The top of the line braun is outrageously priced. At under $100 bucks this razor is a steal.
I also shave my head with the electric razor and my hair is tough so I am a demanding customer. I used this for a week dry shaving in the morning and it outperformed my braun. This morning I gave it a try by doing a wet shave using King of Shaves gel / oil and... WOW. This razor shaved as close as the gillette fusion blades!! Amazing shave!!
Pros: The best shave out of all the electric razors I have used. As close as Gillette without spending a fortune on the fusion blades. Did an awesome job on my head as well as my neck - both tough areas.
Cons: the fat head doesn't do too well shaving around a goatee / facial hair
Consensus: This electric razor is a steal at under $100. If you are in the market for an electric razor buy it
    Get Wet
I've used this shaver every morning since 5/24/10. Shaving dry with it is a disappointment. Used wet it is a whole 'nother story. You can use it with shaving cream, soapy lather, or just hot water. Whichever, I suggest dousing your face with a washrag and hot water several times to soften the whiskers before shaving. Move the shaver briskly over your face and in 4-5 minutes you should be rewarded with the closest shave you've ever had with an electric razor. I get 8 or 9 shaves to a charge. The only thing about this Panasonic that I find a little inconvenient is that when the shaver is used wet, it (the foil head especially) will collect gunk and requires cleaning fairly often. This is the tradeoff for the close shave. The Norelcos I used for 30+ years (dry) never gave a shave like the Panasonic but were a snap to clean (just blow out the head).
  Loud
Just used it on four days of neck beard. First thoughts: wow this thing is loud. It emits a high pitched whine.
Otherwise, the shave is good. It cuts close and leaves very little irritation, but (on a dry shave at least) didnt
pick up every hair exactly. Some hairs I ran the shaver over like ten times and it didn't catch it.
Efficient and cheaper than a Braun, but the king of shavers this is not. Temper your excitement people, a step up this may be
but don't believe all the hype.
Now I personally hate reviews that leave me unsure, so let me say: buy if you need a step up from a Norelco. If you have
a Braun you love, save your money.
