Worth the money.

I am very happy with this razor! It's very heavy duty, has a nice weight and handle length. It was worth the money. I definately recommend this product to anyone looking for a high quality safety razor.

Fantastic Shaving Experience

I've recently begun moving from the marketing driven shaving devices I've used for the past 20+ years (Fusion, etc) to a more traditional shaving experience. I purchased the Merkur 38HD to complement my use of a straight razor, and all I can say is "Wow". The shaving experience is far superior to anything else I've ever used.

Just like many of the reviewers on this board, I did my research on multiple websites and paid close attention to their directions for using this double edge razor. I was highly sceptical that the weight of the razor alone would be sufficent...but I could not have been more wrong. My shave is now on par with anything I've ever done, and the long term investment pays for itself in a remarkably short time.

The razor itself is solid. Like any good piece of hardware the Merkur has good construction, heft, and quality materials. You know that this is an item that you will be able to use for many years to come. The replacement of blades is simple and straightforward.

Your old cartridge razor stinks, buy this

OK, why would people ever have moved to cartridge razors when this kind of shaving goodness existed all along?? This is my first DE razor and I am loving it so far. Beyond the satisfaction of shaving with a sturdy piece of metal that feels like it will last for hundreds of years, the shave is far superior when compared to cartridge razors. I get a much closer shave, my razor bumps had disappeared, and in the long run shaving will be MUCH cheaper. I don't have anything bad to say about this razor. Totally worth the higher price up front and I will never again go back to shaving with overpriced plastic toys.

Perfect double edge for the new or old users

I spent a lot of time on forums before I took the plunge into the double edge shaving world. This razor is highly recommended by many longtime double edge users. I've been using Derby blades and Proraso soap with it and I get great shaves, especially if I do a third pass against the grain. This model has a heavier handle so you aren't tempted to press down (if you do most of your skin will go down the drain, with your stubble - which is true of any double edge). Really, this investment is worth it, it costs me about 40 cents a week to shave now, soap and blades, compare that to buying fancy Gillette blades. Spend some time on Badger and Blade forums and get a semi nice brush to go with it and shaving won't seem like such a chore anymore with this razor.

Can't wait to shave

Sounds crazy but I really look forward to shaving and doing so for about one twentieth of what it was costing with Gillette. I use the Feather blades but have successfully used the Merkur blade and the Extra. Use highend shaving paste and get the best shaves of my life. Use very little pressure, let the blade do the work. Highly recommend.
